Dumas Parson Jr. was born to Dumas Parson, born 1890, and Lizzie Parson, born 1900. Dumas was married and had one child.
Dumas Parson Jr. was accused of shooting his wife, Tannis "Cookie" Parson, dead on their front lawn in West Palm Beach. A witness, Alberta Burden, age 60, had witnessed Dumas shoot his wife. On September 29, 1994, two men shot Burden dead as she arrived at work. She was found in her car, clutching her Bible. The murder led to the creation of the Florida witness protection program. It also inspired the FBI to get involved.
Five years later, a man plead guilty to accessory after the fact for his role in Burden's murder and got five years. Dumas Parson Junior never went to trial for his wife's murder. Ravaged by AIDS, he died in prison in 1996. Dumas was connected to the infamous Parson gang. See A Notorious Name for an excerpt of an article about the gang.
