Edward James Bettinger was born on April 9th, 1925 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania to Edward Peter Bettinger (1899 - 1959) and Abbie F. McGugart (1902 - 1990). Both of his parents were born in Pennsylvania. He had one brother, James Joseph Bettinger (1930 - 2009). A member of the United States Air Force, Edward was a veteran of World War II. He flew B-17s in England and was a Chief Flight Engineer and Top Turret Gunner for 19 missions before being shot down in Belgium. Edward Bettinger married Dorothy T. Gallagher (1925 - 2010) in 1947 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They were married for 63 years, until the death of Edward. Dorothy and Edward had eight children: Barbara, Sharon, Edward James Bettinger Jr., Mary Kay, Jeffrey, Gail, Dori, and Meg. A successful businessman, Edward was a lifelong resident of Pennsylvania who died in Pennsylvania at the age of 85. He and his wife, Dorothy, probably also his high school sweetheart, happen to have been really connected, considering how they died within four months of each other.
