Elvi was born & raised in Mariehamn, Aland Islands, Finland. It was there that she met Kalle (Charles) August Salonen from Hapamakke, Finland. Elvi left Finland with her dear friend Zaida Johansson to live with her half sister & brother-in-law Mae & Axel Bostrom in Boston. Kalle was working aboard ships and met Elvi in Boston. There, they married & had a daughter, Ethel.
Elvi was my "Mormor," Swedish for "mothers' mother." She died 40 years ago & I still miss her.
Elvira Sundstrom of Grants Pass, Josephine County, OR was born on January 6, 1899, and died at age 100 years old on December 6, 1999.
