It is suspected that Eric Goodwell is first born of Minus Goodwell during his brief first marriage to Nellie M King. When Eric Dean Goodwell was born on May 13, 1910, in Lower Salem, Ohio, his father, Minus, was 26 and his mother, Nellie, was 20. While there are no census ties of Eric living with Minus Goodwell, Eric is mentioned in several newspapers as Minus' son, the cities they lived in match and he is mentioned in Minus' obituary. The obituary also mentioned that Eric was living in Garden City, Michigan when Minus passed which matches census records. His mother Nellie M passed away on September 10, 1914, in Washington, Ohio, at the age of 25 when Eric was only 4 years old. His father Minus joined the National guard during WW1 starting in 1917 until he was honorably discharged in 1919. It is believed that Eric was sent to live with relatives during the period that his father was away and it likely that he continued to live with these relatives after his father returned. Minus remarried in 1920 to Gracie Ina Smith and had five more children, three daughters & two sons. Eric moved to Detroit, Michigan where he met Marie Anne Goodwell who recently immigrated from Cardisse Qc, Canada. They had their first child Cecilia in 1934 when Ann was 19 and Eric was 24. They had 4 sons Eric Junior, Bob, Edward & Willard between 1938 - 1951. During this time Eric worked as a mechanic for the Cadillac Motor Car Company. Eric died in March 1969 at the age of 58 in Marion, Florida, and was buried in Westland, Michigan at the Cadillac Memorial Gardens West. A notable addition to Eric's life story is that he was described as being absent from the home quite often. There is speculation that he may had other children as well. Ann was told to be a mostly single parent and her daughter Cecilia helped her raise the 4 boys. There is a gravestone that can be found on that list's an Dean E. Goodwell (1912-1969) buried in Cadillac Memorial Gardens West next to an intended but empty lot for Eleanor J. Goodwell. It is unknown if this is Eric's grave but it is likely as he went by Dean more often then Eric.
