The Age, Melbourne. 12th July 1897. A LORRY DRIVER FATALLY INJURED. Dr. Youl on Saturday inquired into the death of Ernest Henry Lever, who was admitted to the Melbourne Hospital on 29th June, suffering from injuries received by being run over by a lorry, and died on Friday morning. Lever who leaves a widow and five children, was employed by Messrs. Permewan, Wright and Co., carriers. On the date given he was driving a loaded lorry along Victoria-street, West Melbourne, and owing to the wheel skidding along the tram track, he was thrown to the ground. The wheel passed over his right arm, crushing it badly. Owing to the great lacerations, secondary haemorrhage set in, which caused death. A verdict of accidental death was recorded.
