3 Fay Dennison Biographies

SOUTH BEND - Fay Ann Myers, 68, of South Bend, passed away shortly after the noon hour on Wednesday, July 17, surrounded by friends and family. She was born on April 21, 1951, in South Bend, to Robert and Lorraine (Fischer) Dennison who both preceded her in death. As a South Bend native, Fay attended Saint Matthew Catholic grade school and graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School with the class of 1969. Fay married David F. Myers on July 8, 2000, the two met a decade plus and were together ever since. Dave preceded her in death on December 11, 2007, in South Bend, IN. Also preceding Fay in death is her sister, Judy (Dennison) Knabenshue; uncles and aunts Leonard and Fran Fischer, Gene and LaVerne (Fischer) Lehman, and Richard (Ruby) Dennison. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters of South Bend, Judi Lykowski, and Julie (Jeff) Hirsch, along with three grandchildren Caleb Hirsch, Ella Hirsch, and Brycen Hirsch. She is also survived by a sister, Karen (Larry) Kajzer of South Bend, nephews Brian Kajzer of South Bend, Ryan (Bridget) Kajzer and their daughter Fritzie of Indianapolis, along with a cousin, Shirley Schalk of Roseland. Fay worked as a homemaker, a seamstress, an operations manager, and in retail sales before retiring in 2016. She dedicated her life as a homemaker, loving, and enjoying time with her children. She also took great pride in being a grandmother and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a patient, kind-hearted, loyal, an animal lover who enjoyed keeping her house clean, tackling home improvement projects, and keeping her yard well-manicured. She did not give up if she didn't find success on home improvement projects the first time around. She was persistent and tenacious in her pursuit, just as she was in discovering what was causing her health issues shortly after retirement. Her courageous and lengthy search for answers led her to her diagnosis of stage IV pancreatic adenocarcinoma in July of 2018, which is when her aggressive fight began to beat the disease and improve her quality of life, with her daughters, sister and best friend by her side. Fay had a heart of gold that touched many people, including her former colleague, turned best friend, Jenni Grubbs. Fay's daughters would like to thank Jenni and their Aunt Karen and her family for helping their mom in her fight against cancer. Fay's advice to others is not to give up when searching for answers when you know something is wrong with your health. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly forms of cancer due to late detection, plus treatment hasn't evolved in decades, a frustration to Fay and her family considering Fay's father died from Pancreatic cancer in 1962. Their hope is that science and treatment for this disease advance, so there is a better outcome for patients and their families fighting the battle against Pancreatic cancer. A memorial visitation will take place from 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at St. Joseph Funeral Home 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN 46619 followed by a prayer service. Those unable to attend may send online condolences to the family at www.sjfh.net. The Rite of Committal will immediately follow the visitation liturgy at South Union Cemetery in Nappanee. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) pancan.org. Founded in 1999, PanCAN is dedicated to fighting the world's toughest cancer- pancreatic cancer on all fronts: research, clinical initiatives, patient services, and advocacy. Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. Memorial contributions may also be made to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County.
