Floyd Eugene Ohmie of Anderson County, Kansas United States was born on September 13, 1927 to Bertha Marie Martha Louise (Gehrke) Ohmie and John Dietrich Ohmie. He had siblings Herman William Ohmie, Irwin Clarence Ohmie, Harry Edward Ohmie Sr, Robert John Ohmie, Raymond Leroy Ohmie, Mildred (Ohmie) Corbett, and Lillie Irene (Ohmie) Adams. He married Marie Anna (Kleinsorge) Ohmie, and had children Ronald Eugene Ohmie, Marcella A (Ohmie) Waller, Shirley Ann (Ohmie) Evans, Jimmie Ohmie, Marjorie (Ohmie) Boeckman, and Sharon (Ohmie) Thummel. Floyd Ohmie died at age 84 years old on September 11, 2012, and was buried in September 2012 at Saint Johns Lutheran Cemetery in Alliceville, Coffey Co County.

In 1934, at the age of merely 7 years old, Floyd was alive when on November 11th 1933, an extremely strong dust storm hit South Dakota, stripping topsoil. Other strong dust storms had occurred during 1933. Severe droughts continued to hit the Great Plains and the dust storms devastated agricultural production as well as people's' lives for several years. The Roosevelt administration and scientists eventually determined that farming practices had caused the conditions that led to the dust storms and the changes they implemented in farming stopped the Dust Bowl.
