He married Bertha Marie Martha Louise (Gehrke) Ohmie on December 25, 1911 in Wellington, Sumner County, KS, and had children Herman William Ohmie, Harry Edward Ohmie Sr, Raymond Leroy Ohmie, Mildred (Ohmie) Corbett, Irwin Clarence Ohmie, Lillie Irene (Ohmie) Adams, Robert John Ohmie, and Floyd Eugene Ohmie. John Ohmie died at age 68 years old on January 19, 1959 in Garnett, Anderson County, KS, and was buried on January 22, 1959 at Saint Johns Lutheran Cemetery in Aliceville, Coffey County.

    Daily Republican Burlington, KS Jan. 20, 1959 p.8 col.4 JOHN D OHMIE DIES AT GARNETT John D. Ohmie of Aliceville died at the Anderson County hospital at Garnett Monday, January 19, 1959. Mr. Ohmie, who was born January 23, 1890 in Remington, IN had been in ill health for several years. He suffered an asthma attach Saturday and was taken to the hospital. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bertha Ohmie of the home and by two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Corbett, Palo Alto, CA and Mrs. Lillie Adams of Colorado Springs, CO; and six sons: Herman Ohmie and Ray Ohmie of Seattle Wash., Edwin Ohmie and Robert Ohmie of Wichita and Harry Ohmie and Floyd Ohmie of Le Roy. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon January 22 at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran church in Aliceville and burial will be in the St. John's cemetery. Services are being managed by Don Mattingly of LeRoy.
