People named Francis Lyford

The parents of Francis Lyford have been a mystery for decades. The two most likely suspects are: 1. William and Elizabeth Smallbone Lyford, Pangbourne, Berkshire England. Their son Francis born 23 July 1642 2. John and Mary Stevens Lyford, Steventon, Berkshire, England. Their son Francis born 30 January 1641. I and some other die-hard Lyford researchers have been trying to find out for sure who his parents were for the past 25 years. Valerie Hannington, a Lyford relative who at that time was also a paid genealogy researcher, believes Francis was born to John and Mary in 1641. She claimed to have found convincing records in the Chancory Lane Public Record Office, in the U.K. The best current Lyford researcher also lives in the U.K. She researches only researches the Lyford name, a task she has been working on for decades. She doesn't know which parents Francis came from, but was the first to verify that Francis was born 1641-42, based Records of the Essex County Massachusetts Quarterly Courts for the period 1636-86. In Vol 8, page 59, is found a listing for Lyford, Francis, age 38. This record is from 1680, thus making Francis' date of birth 1641-42. To the best of my knowledge after hundreds of hours of research, there is no record of any sort to suggest that Francis was born in the U.S. There is, however, a passenger list record showing a Francis Lyford leaving England for America in 1667.
