Francis was born in Ballynagilly, Lissan, Cookstown in 1884. He initially emigrated to the Isle of Man before the 1911 Census, possibly around 1905. He worked at the Wheatsheaf and Crescent hotels for a Mr Mullen. He married Maisie Mullen. He was the proprietor of the Quarter Bridge Hotel from June 1909 until early 1917. His sister Sarah Anne (Cissie) alo emigrated to the Isle of Man before 1911 to help with the running of the Hotel. Frank and Maisie had 3 children when living on the Isle of Man. Frank was also heavily involved in his local soccer club, St Marys AFC. He was a referee and also the honourable secretary. They moved to Glasgow in 1916 or 1917. In 1922 they were living at 71 Dover Street in Glasgow. His brother Henry John was killed after an accident in the docks in Glasgow and it was Francis that registered the death. In 1923, Francis emigrated to New York on his own. His daughter, Gertrude was born in Ballynagilly while he was in America. In 1924, his wife and 3 children joined him in America. They lived initially at 477w 145th Street in Harlem, Manhattan. The family applied to be american citizens on 30 Oct 1928. In the 1940 census they still lived at that address, though only Gertrude lived with them.
