Frank Joseph Vatter was my father's father. I didn't know him very well because he lived far from me, and there wasn't much connection after my parents divorced. I know he worked in the steel mill in Pittsburgh, and later at Bethlehem steel in eastern PA. He then moved to Lynchburg, VA, in 1960 or 1961. He moved to Miami, Florida not very long after, but I don't know the year. He lived in Miami until he died on Valentine's Day in 1975.
He worked with scraps of brass to make lamps and flower pots, maybe other things, in his spare time. He made his grandchildren small cedar chests to be used as toy boxes. I was told he was the first child in his family to be born in America, while his 2 older sisters were born in Germany. I have wondered where in Germany the family came from.
Frank Vatter of Miami, Miami-Dade County, FL was born on September 6, 1898, and died at age 76 years old in February 1975.
