4 Geneva Jessup Biographies

My grandma was a lovely, modern woman, who had a passion for reading, and was an avid crossword puzzle decipherer. Every morning my grandparents would sit together with a cup of coffee and her famous burnt toast (wouldn't eat it any other way) bantering back and forth about the answers. It was fun to watch! Amazingly, they rarely were stumped for an answer!!! She was an intellectual woman with a vast knowledge of the world ...but never went to college, instead she read minimally a book a day. She was a stay-at-home-mom, which was typical of her era & raised 3 children= first a girl in 1936, Frances Jean (my mom, whose health required the family to move from Salt Lake in 1944, when the doctors told them there was a medical need to move to a drier climate; my mom was bedbound for 2 years due to polio and rheumatic fever at age 7-8) .... and then she gave birth to my Uncle Lewis in 1939, and last my Uncle Tom in 1944... they ended up with six grandchildren (4 girls and 2 boys). Later, when my Uncle Tom married his second wife, Aunt Anita, who brought her 3 additional children (2 girls and 1 boy from a previous marriage) into our family -making a total of 9 grandchildren. One cute family story; She traveled by herself via train from El Paso to Cincinnati, Ohio, for my birth on 10/20/62...LOL...She once told me that my uncle was so sadden that she wasn't there for his 18th birthday...well, it took me 40yrs to apologize & ask Uncle Tom, if my birth ruined his day...He laughed so hard & said NO...he and Grandpa had a blast celebrating his 18th birthday together in El Paso. They just allowed Grandma to believe otherwise; making sure she felt missed. My grandma loved traveling the western states. She loved the desert, while Grandpa took beautiful scenic photos...it was harsh on her Swedish skin. Prior to Grandpa dying in 1988, she and he fulfilled a lifelong dream by vacationing in Australia. They were SO thrilled & happy! ...She's buried next to Grandpa in El Paso, Texas. My grandparents teased each other about Grandpa wanting to be placed in the mausoleum's top shelf- with him stating no other person would ever be on top of him again, after a lifetime of having bosses. He had such a dry, funny wit...and YES he got his wish.....Their passing was heartbreaking for me and the entire family. I miss them greatly~ their granddaugher, Margaret (Peggy) Hutchison-Padron P.S. Westergreen isn't her true maiden name...As a little boy, her father traveled with his little sister on a ship from Sweden (by themselves) to the USA... Her father's name was Nels Svensson and changed it to Westergreen...meaning traveling west and starting a new life. They were proud Americans.
