George was the loving husband of over 60 years of Jeroma N. Zach-Zahour. George passed away peacefully on 2-10-10, on his birthday, from complications of strokes suffered in June, 2008. He was born 2-10-23, in Chicago to George Senior and Antoinette Plzak Zahour. He grew up in Berwyn, Illinois. He graduated from Morton East HIgh School.
He is survived by Jeroma, his wife of over 60 years. His grandchildren - Ross Zahour, Katie Zahour, Molly & Julie Zahour -- Clayton Kline and Will Kline and Zach Kline and Lauren Ashley Kline -- Alex Coggins-Peckham and Mike Coggins-Peckham.
He was a World War II Army Veteran. He was the beloved father of Paul (Teri) Zahour, Andrea (Kymm) Peckham and Kristen Kline; he was the dear grandfather of 12 . He had two-great grandchildren.
The Visitation was Saturday February 13, 2010 at Hitzeman Funeral Home Ltd. at 9445 West 31st Street in Brookfield. The internment was at Woodlawn Cemetery. The words that a father speaks to his children in the privacy of home are not heard by the world, but, as in whispering galleries, they are clearly heard at the end, and by posterity (Jean Paul Richter).
George was able to take trips to Canada with his son and friends. He loved to travel and visited friends in Arizona in the winter and traveled to Switzerland, Mexico, Hawaii, the Canadian Rockies and an Alaskan cruise. The family many many trips via the Union Pacific Railroad and by air to visit family (Jeroma Zach's family) in Idaho. George was gentle, quiet and mannerly. He was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren called him "Boompa." He married Jeroma from Buhl, Idaho in October of 1949.
He had cards and letters from at least 81 friends and relatives. He had flowers from Rene, Marianne & Miles, Teri's parents, Mutual of America, Edward Jones, and a lot of people said that...they didn't know that about him...at his funeral when they spoke of his life.
George was the Senior Art Director in the Chicago Advertising agencies for over 40 years. He worked for Needham, Louis and Brorby, Campbell Mithun, Grant, Wright & Baker and Stone & Adler.
