Helen (McKay) Cortopassi was born to John Thomas McKay (1926 - 2001) and Helen Marcelin McKay (1921 - 2005), born in Scotland. She had siblings Bruce, Jerome, Malcom, and John Thomas III, as well as 3 more McKay brothers.
On December 24, 1974, Helen McKay married Travis L Cortopassi in Miami-Dade, Florida. They had two sons, Justin and Sean.
Travis was a veteran of the Persian Gulf War and served in the United States Navy. Because of his service, Helen is buried in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
