James Booley was born in 1887 in Warr to Walter Scott Booley (1863-1936) and Mary Jane (Brabner) Booley (1865-1928). He had siblings Olive Eileen Booley, Nellie Booley Osborne, Jean Lovel Booley, Lindsay Mary Booley, Stanley Booley, William Westley Booley, Harold Leslie Booley, Cecil Gordon Hay Booley, Lucy Doris Williamson, Edna Lyle Russell, and Robert Alexander Booley.
In 1914, at the age of 27, James enlisted in the Australian Infantry in Ouyen, Victoria. James was sent to Turkey as part of the Australian Imperial Force (AIF), where he fought in various battles, including the infamous Gallipoli campaign.
He served as a Private in the 14th Battalion AIF, 3rd Reinforcements, Regiment 1570. James was one of the many brave soldiers who fought and sacrificed their lives during World War I.
Unfortunately, James Booley did not survive the war. He was killed in action while trying to take Hill 971, a strategic position during the Gallipoli campaign.
James Booley died at age 27 years old on August 8, 1915.
