James Neal was the second child of Thomas Neal & Mary Knowles. He was baptised on the 6th May 1827, at Stody, Norfolk England. He was the son of Thomas Neal and Mary Knowles. James was known to have married three times. His first marriage was to Isabella Crisp on the 24th January 1847 at Briningham Norfolk England. His second marriage was to a Mary O'Hara, on the 26th July 1852, at Geelong, Victoria. His third marriage was to an Anne Preston; they were married on the 17th June 1856, at Geelong, Victoria. James died on the 22nd February 1907, at Geelong and was buried on the 26th February at the Eastern Cemetery, Geelong.Isabella Crisp - The first Wife of James Neal was Isabella Crisp was born on the 12th July 1828 at Briningham Norfolk England. She was the daughter of Arminger (Robert) Crisp and Ann Skelton. She died at sea on the 10th November 1849.
Isabella was James Neal first wife and James lists her on his son's (Edward James Neal) birth certificate (3rd Marriage) James is the informant, He states on Edward’s birth certificate, that he married Isabella in 1847. There were no children to this marriage; James and Isabella were both listed on the ship "Andromache" on the assisted immigrants shipping records.
James and Isabella were immigrating out to Australia with James parents Thomas Neal and Mary Neal (nee Knowles) and his sisters.
But tragedy struck on the 10th November 1849, Isabella who had been suffering with a fever took a turn for the worse and died. It was fortunate for the young James to have had family onboard with him to console him in his hour of need. The Andromache arrived at Point Henry Geelong, Victoria Australia, on the 24th December 1849, 'Christmas Eve'. James was now in a new land, and was a 22 years old widower, a hard way to start a new life. It's not sure where James went to after his arrival, but a guess, would have him living with his parents for a while.
But what is known is that Isabella had a sister called Anna Crisp, she was listed as a resident in the 1841 census in Briningham, Norfolk, England. Anna and her husband Edward Bunn later immigrated aboard the ship Candahar on the 21st April 1850 to Adelaide South Australia. Anna and Edward later resided at Mt Barker South Australia and later at Mt Egerton, Victoria.
Anna Crisp was born in Briningham, Norfolk, England on the 21st September 1823. She died on the 17th February 1898 at Mt Egerton, Victoria of heart disease and bronchitis, at 74 years of age and was buried on the 18th February 1898 at Mt Egerton, Victoria. Her marriage to Edward Bunn took place on the 23rd July 1839 at Briningham, Norfolk, England.
Edward was born in Snoring Magna, Norfolk on the 26th June 1816. He was the son of Rudd Bunn and Phoebe Gower. He died on the 13th November 1899 at Mt Egerton, Victoria, at 83 years of age.
