John Edward Aber
Actor. He is best known for being part of the Aber family of child actors which included his brothers Walter Texas Aber, and Billy Aber. He was better known as 'Johnny' Aber and is best remembered for being one of film director Hal Roach's 'Little Rascals' in such films as, "Yale vs. Harvard" (1927), "Tired Business Men" (1927), "Ten Years Old" (1927), and "The Smile Wins" (1928), usually credited as 'Kid Who Gets Squirted,' 'Kid Throwing Tomato,' and 'Kid Bowling With Bonedust.' He was born one of six children as John Edward Aber to Charles Benjamin Aber (1884-1959), and his wife Wilhelmina Schultz "Winnie" Aber (1886-1965), in San Antonio, Texas, on August 24, 1916. He made his actual film debut playing the role of 'Kid Who Gets Squirted' in the comedy film, "Ten Years Old" (1927). The classic 'Little Rascals' short comedy film was directed by Robert A. McGowan, and written by Hal Roach, also starred Allen 'Farina' Hoskins, Jackie Condon, Joe Cobb, and Mildred Kornman, tells the story of Joe Cobb who is invited by the gang to his 10th birthday party, but they are all at Jackie Condon's party. So the parties were merged and Joe Cobb was able to share a cake he baked, not realizing Mildred Kornman added tacks and a rubber tube to the batter. Besides, "Yale vs. Harvard" (1927), "Tired Business Men" (1927), "Ten Years Old" (1927), and "The Smile Wins" (1928), his many other film credits include, "Olympic Games" (1927), "Spoof Spoofing" (1928), "Barnum & Ringling, Inc." (1928), "Fair And Muddy" (1928), "Knockout Buster" (1929), "Boxing Gloves" (1929), "Shivering Shakespeare" (1930), and his last role playing a 'Newsboy' in "City Lights" (1930). He retired from acting in films shortly thereafter. Following his acting career he was educated locally and attended the Belmont High School in Los Angeles, California, and later attended the distinguished West Point Military Academy in West Point, New York, where he later graduated from. During World War II, he served his country, as a Colonel in the United States Army. He was also a Military Attache' to Switzerland from 1946 to 1948, and he led numerous strategic defense system projects for the United States Army. He also served his country as Colonel in the United States Army in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. For his military service, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. His military career spanned a total of twenty-eight years beginning as a cadet. He was married with children. Following his death, he was buried with full military honors.
