John S Rhodehamel Mar 12, 1962 - Mar 10, 2002

I met Rhodie, which is the name I used, in 1987 while we were stationed together in the Air Force. At first we didn't like each other, it seems so funny now. Well the longer we worked together the more we found out that we shared a lot in common. Soon Rhodie became a member of my family and spent a lot of time at my house. My children soon started calling him Uncle Scott. Rhodie and I did everything together, our favorite was to archery hunt. Thats all we talked about and anyone who knew us would tell you that they were sick of him and I talking hunting. Well eventually I was deployed to Desert Shield in 1990 and my wifes sister came out to Utah to stay with her. My wife asked Rhodie to go with her to the train station. Once her sister stepped off the train thier eyes locked and they fell in love and married, so Rhodie actually became Uncle Scott. In 1992 I left active duty and moved back home. A couple of years later Rhodie and his wife moved back home to Indiana also and i was quick to get him a job where I was. So here we were together again working together and hunting in the fall. Well in 2000 I believe Rhodie and his wife adopted a little boy. They couldn't have children natuarlly. This little boy was Rhodies little boy and life was good. In 2001 they decided to take a trip to see friends in Florida, and Rhodie was excited and truley needed it because of the stresses of work. Soon after they arrived in Florida that weekend on a sunday morning we recieved a call from Rhodies wife screaming that Rhodie had died It was something I will never forget. Life as I knew it had stopped and my best friend had died. Even to this day it is like time has stood still and it still just as painful as it was that very day. One thought really sticks in my mind... right before they left I was at work and I looked up and saw Rhodie on the 2nd floor working. i knew he was stressed and I thought I should go up and say hello and give him a hug. I didn't do it for whatever reason and to this day it haunts me. I miss you my friend more than you know. I will never forget you and when I return to Indy here soon my first stop is to visit you and place flowers on your grave. I miss and love you my brother!
