Joseph Edward “Rookie” Nakoneczny was born on February 23, 1923 in Cherry Valley, Washington County, Pennsylvania, USA to parents Jan Nakoneczny (1880-1941) and Agnes Widz Nakoneczny (1889-1953). He had siblings Walter Nakoneczny (1912-1957), Helen Victoria Nakoneczny Malesky (1916-2011), Alexander J Nakoneczny (1918-1963), and Agnes R Nakoneczny Albinini (1928-2003). He registered for the military draft on June 30, 1942, in Chartiers, Washington, Pennsylvania, when he was 19 years old. Joseph then enlisted in the US Army on March 30, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At the time of his enlistment he held the rank of Private as a selectee (enlisted men). During his time in the military, he was stationed at various locations, including the Cps. Edward, Stoneman, and the Philippines. Joseph served in the Field Artillery, General or Unspecified unit and was promoted to the rank of Technician Fourth Grade. In December 1945, Joseph was admitted to the hospital due to a sprain of the wrist joint, which was caused by athletics and sports. This injury was classified as a non-battle injury, and Joseph was discharged from the military duty on January 18, 1946. He was awarded several medals, including the Good Conduct Medal, American Ribbon, Asia-Pacific Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal. Joseph was married to lola Colussi Nakoneczny (1928-2015).
Joseph E Nakoneczny of Bethel, Fairfield County, CT was born on October 17, 1921, and died at age 70 years old on January 27, 1992.
