He married Clara (Thornton) Byas in 1960 in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia United States and they later divorced in 1979 in Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina United States. He had children Kent Byas III and Robin Kaye (Byas) Dallas. Kent Byas died at age 61 years old on March 20, 1997, and was buried at Bethlehem Reformed Episcopal Old U.S. 52, in Moncks Corner, Berkeley County.
