Lonnie Nettles Jr of Texas was born on February 12, 1968, and died at age 40 years old on November 18, 2008.
Lonnie Richard "Richie" Nettles was born June 18, 1928, in Laurel, Jones, Mississippi, to Marshall Franklin Nettles and Addie Corwin Gildersleeve, married Feb 15, 1923. He was their second son. He grew up in Patchogue with his siblings, Margaret, Franklin, Samuel, Ruth, Elvin, and Dorothy. Richie enlisted in the US Army, during WWII, and then, reenlisted leaving the service as a SGT. He was an Army paratrooper and served in Japan at the end of WWII. In 1953 Richie married Lillian E Cameron. Lillian was the daughter of Thomas Marie Cameron, originally from Brooklyn, Queens, NY. The couple purchased a Levitt cape cod home at 10 Elm Street, East Patchogue, and lived on the same street as his brother, Sam Nettles and his sister, Ruth Gerard. His sister Margaret Franklin lived within walking distance in the neighborhood. The couple were known to walk into town to run errands and were active outdoors enthusiasts. Elm Street crossed the Swan Creek. A spot made for fishing and boating. The couple owned a boat called the Sea Beast. They enjoyed camping and traveling. Richie kept journals of all their travels which were normally by truck and sometimes with a camper attached. Their favorite trips were to Florida to visit his brother Frank. Richie worked as a delivery driver. His wife was a homemaker. Richie was a great story teller, and beloved by his family. The couple enjoyed dogs and owned at least three, Buddy, Sam, and Shorts. The couple did not have children. They focused their attention on their nieces and nephews and godchildren, and each other. Richie died at the hospital in Patchogue on January 5, 2000, after a long illness with cancer. He was survived by his wife. He was buried at the Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, Suffolk, NY.
