Lyle L. Billings, 86, of Belton, MO passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the Carnegie Village Assisted Living Center. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 14 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons, Floral Hills Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Friday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Leukemia Society. Lyle was born September 30, 1925 in Mason City, Iowa to Rex L. and Susie E. (Morris) Billings and had lived in this area since 1952. He retired from the Kansas City Southern Railroad as a Switchman in 1976 after 24 years of service. He was a Navy veteran of W.W. II., serving with an amphibious Battalion during the Normandy invasion at Omaha Beach. His Unit was awarded the Medal Croix DeGuerre from the French government. Lyle and his wife, Betty loved to travel. Together they have been to Canada, Mexico, Hawaii 5 times and Las Vegas 19 times. They have visited every state in the union with the exception of Alaska. In addition to their domestic travels they have also visited Switzerland, Germany and France. He was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Billings and a sister, Dorothy Green. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty D. Billings of the home, a son, Lonnie L. Billings, 5 daughters, Janice L. Nuckolls, Donna R. Frank , Lisa K. Lockhart, Linda L. Evans, Susanne M. McClain all of the Kansas City area, a brother, Glen Billings, a sister, Helen Tice, 19 grandchildren 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
