Mieczyslaw Niemczura known as Matthew Niemczura, was born on April 12, 1916 in Fall River, Bristol, Massachusetts, USA to Polish immigrant parents Mary A Piela (1896-1968) and Jozef Niemczura (1896-1968). He had siblings including a brother, Joseph Niemczura (1919-1927).
He grew up in both Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Central Falls, Providence, Rhode Island, USA. Matthew enlisted into the Infantry on September 16, 1940 in Paterson New Jersey and was a private with a one year enlistment term.
In 1943, he married Thelma Lee Smith (1926-2006) and they had three sons together. Te family resided in Reidsville, Rockingham, North Carolina, USA.
