Maurice Edwin Royds was born on August 28th, 1900 in West Manakyunk, Pennsylvania, to Thomas Royds (1866 - 1938) and Sarah Elizabeth (Fye) Royds (1867 - 1939). Both of his parents were born in the state of Pennsylvania. He had one brother, Horace W. Royds (1906 - 1990).
Maurice Royds married Freda C, Hallermeier (1909 - 1989) in 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They had two sons: Edwin Maurice, born 1930 and Frederick, born 1947; and two daughters, Barbara, born 1933, and Evelyn, born 1935.
A lifelong resident of Pennsylvania, Maurice died in the state of Pennsylvania at the age of 74. He is buried in Belmont Hills in Bala Cynwyd, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
