Max Trompeter was born to Joel Trompeter and Sara Eder in Berlin, Germany. He had eight brothers and sisters. He, his parents, and all of his siblings were in a German concentration camp in Austria. All but Max died in the camp.
He immigrated to the United States when he was 27, arriving in New York on August 17, 1948.
Max married Geraldine Ida McHenry on November 3, 1950 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania by a Rabbi. They had a daughter, Rachael Rose Trompeter and a son, Jacob A. Trompeter.
