Her father trained her to be a contortionist,
tightrope walker, circus performer.
May was adopted by Marziles ( sister of George and Phillip Wirth,
of Wirth brothers circus )
and John Augustine Martin in 1901
after her parents had separated.
( Two other Wirth brother's John, and Harry died in the mid
1890's )
Under Marziles guidance she became the greatest female trick rider the world had ever seen.
May married circus musician Frank White in 1919.
She retired from performing in 1937.
