Melissa Jean Aris was born to Betty J. Kern and she had two half-brothers. Melissa J. Aris married Terrence Swilley, a machinist, in June of 1993 in Michigan. Melissa Aris-Swilley had one son, who was three years old in April of 1998. One night, neighbors in her apartment complex called the police and complained that Melissa was shouting and pounding and neighbors' doors. When the police arrived, they found Melissa's son in the bathtub - dead of drowning or an overdose of sleep medication. Believing that the death was the result of a murder-suicide plan by Melissa, she was put under arrest and taken to jail. See Mother arrested. Although the original reports were not quite accurate - for instance, her son was a month shy of 3 - Melissa plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter and child abuse charges in April of 1999 and was sentenced. Melissa died in 2012 in either Colorado or Las Vegas, Nevada. There are differing reports referring to the location. She was 41 years old.
