Born in Covington, Virginia. Graduate of VPI (Va. Tech). Lived most of his life in Covington, never married. His plane was shot down by flax. After parachuting from the plane, he was tangled up in a tree, broke his leg, civilians helped him down, some beat him up badly and turned him over to the German's. Spent months in a POW camp, from August 3, 1944 to the end of the war. Died in a VA Hospital in Salem, Virginia. His father died when he was about 8 years old. His mother Mabel never remarried.
