Randall Cobb Sep 30, 1922 - May 1985 Panama City, Florida

Randall and I worked for my father from 1981- 1983. I drove a truck with Randall for the Salvation Army in Bay County Florida. We were listed in the Bay County "book of whos who" as truck drivers in 1981. He lived in a two room block house about a mile from the Tyndall bridge on hwy 98. in Bay County. He was divorced from Mrs. Flossie Cobb. a delightful lady I had the pleasure of knowing also. We were great friends Randall and I.. I was 17 and he was in his late fifties. He was my mentor and to this day I have many fond thoughts of working with him. he could ease a joke into a conversation without one ever realizing it until he delivered the punch line. He saved my life one day. I wanted to go across to the JR store there on BUS 98 and hwy 22 . He wouldn't let me go until we parked and unloaded the truck. We argued about it as we often did about things... until we were interrupted by 6 loud gun shots. a fellow named Larry Gargainus went in the store whilst we were arguing and shot everyone in the store. I would've been there among the dead had Randall not stopped me. Randall was a kind and giving man. he liked his whiskey and spent many years battling alcoholism. The years I worked with him he was straight as an arrow. Sadly he fell off the wagon around 1983 just before I left Bay County.. I picked him up many evenings and saw that he got home safe to the little white block house in Parker, Fl.. He told me one time, that while General Patton was in the states, he in fact was his personal driver. When Patton Transferred to Europe in WW2 Randall stayed stateside.. He was an amazing fellow and I was proud to know him. I think of this wonderful man often.
