Robert Bernard Gronlund is the son of Bernard Gronlund and Lena Manske. He was born on May 2, 1926 in Duluth St Lo, Minnesota and had younger brothers Gerald Gronlund and Glen Gronlund. They grew up in Duluth, St Louis, Minnesota and he attended Denfield High School in Duluth. Robert enlisted in the Army on May 29th, 1944, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, at the age of 18. He was initially not assigned to any branch and was a part of the Reserves, excluding the Regular Army Reserve and officers of the Officers Reserve Corps on active duty under the Thomason Act. On September 7th, 1943, he was finally assigned to the Army. During his time in the military, he held the rank of Private and was discharged from the Army on June 15th, 1946. Robert served as the vice president of development and public relations at the University of Tampa from 1969-1976. After that, he formed his own fundraising consulting firm in 1976. The firm, Gronlund Sayther Brunkow (GSB), serves charities across the country. He moved to the West Palm area in 1981, and in the early 1980's served as president of the Florida campus of Northwood University, Dr. As a founding partner, Dr. Gronlund continued to consult part time until fully retiring in 2006.
