Robert George Lyneis was born on July 18, 1921 in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, USA to parents Claude Alvin Lyneis (1880-1951) and Franziska Dreis (1880-1961). He had three brothers and four sisters. Mr. Lyneis was known as one of the two renowned "Bicyling Bobs" who traveled 11,000 miles all over the United States in 1939. On August 24, 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During World War II, Lyneis served as a captain in the U.S. Army 157th Combat Engineers. His assignment in the European Theater of operations underscores his involvement in the crucial efforts to support combat operations and infrastructure development during the war. After his time in the military, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1948 and went on to work at the DuPont Company engineering department n Newark, Delaware for 31 years. He retired in 1981.
