Rufus Harward Weaver was born to parents William Thomas Weaver (1891-1971) and Eva M Grier (1897-1950) on November 22, 1919 in Cuthbert, Early Co., GA, USA. He was one of 5 children with siblings including William Ledger Weaver (1914-1966), Gladys Weaver (1922-2004), and Jack Vincent Weaver (1936-1997). He lived in Town, Clay Co., GA, USA and in 1942 he married Annie Vera Arnold (1924–2015) in Georgia. The couple had three children together including Rufus Harward Weaver Jr (1943-2011). Rufus Weaver Sr. was a member of the US Army during World War II. He registered for the draft in 1941 when he was 23 years old and living in Fort Gaines, Clay, Georgia. On August 4, 1942, Rufus H Weaver enlisted in the US Army at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia. He was assigned to the Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers, USA and was a Private in the Selectees (Enlisted Men) component. In January 1944, Rufus Weaver was admitted to the military hospital and was discharged that same month in January 1944. He re-enlisted in the Army after three months of discharge as an Enlisted Man in the Regular Army. His enlistment date was July 17, 1945, and he was discharged on November 27, 1945.

He grew up in a large family with siblings Therta Kate, Rosa Lee, Mattie B, James A, Bertha L, Lizzie Odella, Willie Ray, Lucilie, Raymond, William A, Lottie Mae, Florena, and Gladys Weaver. He registered for the draft in 1941 when he was only 17 years old and listed his residence as Rydal, Bartow, Georgia. Rufus served in the United States Army during World War II. He enlisted in the Army on April 3, 1943, at Fort Benning, Georgia and he was assigned to the Transportation Corps as a selectee, which means he was drafted into the Army. He received basic training and was later assigned to the 409th Port Company. During his military service, Weaver was hospitalized twice and was later discharged from the hospital in December 1945 but continued to serve in the Army until January 11, 1946, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. Rufus was married to Opal Annie Beasley (1927-2007) and they had 5 children together including John L Weaver (1946-1959), Rufus James Weaver Jr (1949-2003), and Janis Weaver (1952-2019).
