Russell was the kind of person that truly enjoyed his family and friends. He loved his family with every fiber of his soul and was a very proud man. He had a wonderful way of making others feel special...always remembering everyone's names, their stories and finding the lighter side of life with lots of jokes and laughter. He was known for making up fun 'nicknames' for those he cherished. Russell loved to be involved. Sports made him happy. He was invited to try out for the Philadelphia A's after high school. He was called back only once but was thrilled for the opportunity and experience! He coached several teams starting as a young baseball and football coach for his younger brother Bob. Then after having his own children, he coached Pop Warner football for his son year after year as well as Cherry Hill/Babe Ruth Baseball. He also coached his daughters CH rec softball team for many years. He also tried his hand in painting. He become an excellent painter and thankfully, his art has been dispersed among his children. He prefered painting ocean scenes and often said he believed he was either a sea captain or a oceanographic cartographer in his past life. He found peace and happiness with his cherished wife, Lynetta down the shore in Ocean City, NJ where they owned a home at 2403 Asbury Ave. Surf and pier fishing was his balance in life. Once again, he became involved in the community down there belonging to the OCFC where he enjoyed bringing people together with his weekend breakfasts to raise money for the clubhouse. He is truly missed everyday by those who loved him but we are grateful that we had such an amazing person in our lives...always teaching us to strive to be the best person possible but also to try to enjoy the ride as well!

Russell D Githens of Cherry Hill, Camden County, NJ was born on December 12, 1936, and died at age 58 years old on February 4, 1995.
