I remember Salvatore (uncle Tadda) would visit our house at 922 Nathaniel Road from his home in Pennsylvania. He was a painter and he allowed me to help him paint my aunt's bedroom. Oil-based paint, mixed with linseed oil and sometimes strained through a piece of cheese cloth. He was a lot of fun. Always laughing and entertaining us kids. He made what we called crispellas which were much like crepes. He'd put oil in the pan, a little batter, fry it up then, holding the pan in his right hand and smacking the handle with his left hand, the crispella would fly high into the air and flip onto the uncooked side. Such fun. Another culinary treat was when he put olive oil in a little cup, added some salt, pepper and spices then dip a celery stick into it for a treat. All happy memories of Uncle Tadda.

Salvatore Onese of Republic, Fayette County, PA was born on September 8, 1907, and died at age 64 years old in August 1972.
