Stephen Maurice Hoenig was born to Ann Shlensky and David H. Hoenig. He had one brother, Jonathan Hoenig. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Stephen never married nor did he have children. The family asked that memorials be made to the Stephen M. Hoenig Memorial Actors Fund when he died at the young age of 19 in Chicago. A theater student, Stephen had scheduled a head shot appointment at the Alan Bass studio in downtown Chicago when a natural gas explosion ripped through the studio, taking the lives of three people. One of those killed was 19-year-old Stephen Hoenig. Alan Bass, the owner of the studio and a photographer was also killed, as was a 31 year old make-up artist, Victoria Opeka. Stephen's former drama teacher, Suzanne Adams, said: "Steve was truly and exceptional person, an exceptional actor, and extraordinary talent. He was so much fun to be with as well."
