Vera Elizabeth Mitchell was born on August 29, 1911 in Effingham, Effingham County Illinois to mother Elizabeth M Mitchell and she had a sister, Dorothy V Mitchell. When she was young, Vera's family relocated to Denver, Colorado. It was there that she would later meet Lionel Priestly Yetter, a widower with two children, whom she married on December 21, 1930 in Golden, Jefferson, Colorado, USA. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when Lionel was murdered by an unknown assailant on June 19, 1936. Just six years after getting married, Vera was left to care for their five children, including Glesner and Dale, her stepchildren, as well as Roger Melvyn, JoAnne, and Lionel G. Yetter, who was only six months old at the time. Vera was just 24 years old and lacked formal education when her husband passed away. She later went on to marry Joseph W Galley.
