Walter Andrew Edney is the son of William A Edney and Elizabeth Lilly Bateman. He was born in March of 1918 in Wavery, Tennesee, USA and had a sister, Margaret Edney. He registered for the draft in 1940 in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, where he was residing at the time. Then on November 21, 1941, Walter Andrew Edney enlisted in the United States Army at Ft George G Meade, Maryland. He was assigned to the "Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers, USA" category within the "Selectees (Enlisted Men)" component. During his military service, Walter attained the rank of Private (PVT) and later was promoted to Private First Class (PFC) in the US Army. He was married and father to a son, David A Edney (1954-2016).
