Grandpa had class. He always treated me with respect. I followed his examples throughout my own lifetime. He was honest, he was simple and he let others be. I will always remember watching the 4:30 movies with him, playing cards with him and him buying us Snicker candy bars. I have always remembered the "burn the burger" incident cause I have used that lesson my whole life. My Mom was in the hospital having a hysterectomy, I was 6. Grandpa took care of us part of the time. It was hamburger night, my grandpa went to turn the burgers over and my brother said "my Mom never does that" and then my brother asked me what my Mom does. I said "I don't know, I don't look. So my brother cooked my burger, it was hard as a rock on one side and raw on the other side. So of course when my brother put my burger on my plate I just kept hitting the hard side with my fork repeatedly. It was funny. And I learned the lesson from my grandpa of giving people, even children, enough rope to learn on their own. Just as a FYI, my grandpa flipped his burger and had a great meal that night.
