Wilbert John Wittman was born on March 13, 1919 in Spencer County, Indiana, USA to parents Adolph George Wittman (1892-1974) and Augusta Ann "Gussie" Held (1896-1981). He had siblings including Edgar H Wittman (1915-1946) and Paul W Wittman (1916-1987). They lived in Huff, Spencer, Indiana. At the time of his draft registration on October 16, 1940, he was 21 years old and considered the head of his household. Wilbert enlisted in the Army on October 29, 1940, at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indiana. He held the rank of Private and was assigned to the Air Corps. He remained in military service for nearly five years, is a veteran of World War II and was discharged on August 23, 1945. Wilbert was married to Lula Mae Mathena (1932-2018) and they had two sons together.

Wilbert Wittman of Bazine, Ness County, Kansas was born on July 3, 1918, and died at age 68 years old in April 1987.
