From modest beginnings, Dad embarked on a very interesting life. For the family, the experience of following him on his globetrotting jobs was life changing and none of us would ever see the world in the same way. For Dad, this life seems to have been his destiny. He transformed himself and adapted to different cultures in Cuba, Switzerland, Argentina, Mexico and Colombia with grace and ease. He would have been content to remain in Latin America for the remainder of his life.
He rose through the ranks at Chrysler to become Controller and Director of Finance in Colombia. Later on, he moved to Tremec in Mexico, as CFO. I always marveled at how comfortable he was mingling with the people of different cultures, from the peasants to the elite, and how he enjoyed the lifestyle of the expatriate gringo.
William A Collawn of Shrewsbury, Worcester County, MA was born on December 19, 1905, and died at age 89 years old on January 6, 1995.
