William Paul Cragg of Muskogee, Muskogee County, OK was born on December 20, 1918, and died at age 71 years old on January 7, 1990. William Cragg was buried at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery

Bill was born in Ft Wayne Indiana. He learned to fly as a teenager at the Smith Field in Ft Wayne. After WW II began he was taken into the CAA as an instructor and sent to Randolph Field TX to train Army men to fly the small aircraft for artillery spotting. They were issued the uniforms of officers in the Army with different insignia and they did not hold any type of rank. He was towards the end of the CAA sent to I believe MN where he did the same work until they disbanded in 1943. He was home for a few months and finally enlisted in 1944 in the Army Air Force. He was sent to Randolph Field TX to train as a pilot as if he had never flown before. Bill did not see action during World War II but was sent to Japan after the war and was flying P51's. He was in Japan for a time before coming state side in 1949. He as on leave for a time and then sent to another base. He was later flying jets of various types and stationed in other parts of the world. He came to rest and finish his USAF career in Washington State. Since he had only a high school education the AF did not allow him to be promoted to Lt Col and he was the same as kicked out. He did retire. He went to work for Boeing and trained commercial pilots on the simulators. Lastly training pilots for the Boeing 737. Bill also taught aerobatics at SeaTac airport for years. He flew up into his 70's and finally gave up his license he told me when they didn't allow him to fly by himself due to a having had heart bypass surgery. The doctor that did his bypass surgery purchased a plane to do aerobatics and Bill took him up and as he put it wrung him out for the first time. He was always active and when talking to him on the phone one day he was telling me about how he would be walking, used to walk 5miles a day, and all of a sudden he would just fall. He had no idea why and at first the doctors didn't know why. Later he was diagnosed with Lewy Body disease and although they lived in Tacoma for all the years after his retirement from the USAF his wife decided after he was in a nursing facility to move to Prescott AZ. He passed away out there.
Bill Attended South Side High School in Fort Wayne IN and his father Will died in the 1930's. He had a brother Robert who was a couple years younger than Bill and his mother Nellie Cragg. His brother Robert was living in Florida when he passed and is buried in a military cemetery in that state. His mother, father and other relatives are buried at Lndenwood Cemetery Fort Wayne Indiana.
