William Ozanich is the son of John Ozanich (1887-1933) and Frances Ozanich Yauk (1895-1978). He was born on October 14, 1921 in Butler, Pennsylvania, USA and he had two siblings John and Mary Ozanich.
William enlisted in the United States Army on August 4, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At the time of his enlistment, he was a 20-year-old white male.
He held the rank of Private as part of the "Selectees (Enlisted Men)" group. The term "Selectees" refers to individuals who were chosen for military service through the Selective Service System, which was in place during World War II to draft men into the armed forces.
