William James Towart was born on February 2, 1922, in New York City, USA. He was the son of Helen Towart and grew up in Queens with his maternal grandparents, mother, and aunt. William worked as a bank clerk in New York before registering for the WWII draft on June 30, 1942, in Elmhurst, Queens.
William enlisted in the US Army on November 12, 1942, in New York City and served in the military for 2-3 years, rising to the rank of Corporal. He was discharged in June 1945.
William was married to Lillian E Towart and they resided in Babylon, Suffolk, New York, USA, with their children Barbara Jean Towart and William A Towart.
