Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

Macon Collins had an older brother named Ben. Macon attended Barstow Elementary School and Miller High School graduating in June of 1950 with a perfect attendance record. He was a good artist and a church goer. His friends were Eugene Leverett, Sam Lawson and Ed Simpkins. He would put an apple on Omie Johnson’s desk some days in high school. He grew up in Black Bottom Detroit. He could have become anything he wanted. Very smart and talented. I lost touch with him after High School.

Add Memories, Stories & Photos about Macon

Macon was a student at Barstow Elementary School in Detroit from 1940-1945. In 1945 he attended Miller High School located on Jay and Dubois. He was a very good student who graduated with a perfect attendance record in June 1950. Commencement exercises were at the Rackham Auditorium in Detroit. The class marched to Mendleson’s “War March of the Priesys. He had an older brother named Ben. He is mentioned in the book A Place Called Miller. His best friend may have been Sam Lawson although he was generally thought well of by all of his classmates. In his neighborhood his best friend was probably Eugene Leverett and he was also very friendly with Omie Johnson one of his classmates throughout his school years. He had all of the gifts—academic, athletic and artistic. He may have been drafted into the military at some point but I don’t believe he would have enlisted.
