Abbott Wilder Nelson was born on January 26, 1883 in Canaan, Somerset County, Maine United States to Maria Jane Harris and Frank Benjamin Nelson, and had siblings Amos Parlin Nelson, Susie R. Nelson, and Hilda J. Nelson. He married Maude May Scott, and had children Hildred P. Nelson and Evelyn Scott Nelson. Abbott Nelson died at age 48 years old on May 31, 1931 in Fairfield, and was buried at Fairview Cemetery in Canaan.
