Albert Ardell Allen, age 54, of R. R. 1, Abingdon passed away at 5 p.m. Monday, June 19, 1972, at the Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, June 22 at 2:30 p.m. at the Larson Funeral Home with Capt. Raymond C. Briggs, of the Salvation Army, Galesburg, officiating. Military services will be the Harry E. Wiles Post 381. Pallbearers will be Legionnaires. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery.
Mr. Allen, who had his own trucking business, had lived most of his lifetime in the Abingdon Community. He attended Cherry Grove School and was a member of the Christian Church and the American Legion Post 381. He served in Army during World war II.
He was born September 13, 1917, in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Albert Edward and Nellie U. Sarver Allen. His first marriage was to Juanita Heaton in July 1942, and they divorced. He married Bertha Poulson on December 15, 1962.
Surviving is five sons, Albert S. Allen, Galesburg, Illinois; Ronald W. Allen, San Jose, California; Edwin R. Allen, Abingdon, Illinois; Jerry D. Allen, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and Daniel Allen at home; one daughter, Jenny Allen, Galesburg, Illinois; two brothers, Edward E.Allen of Galesburg, Illinois, and Robert D. Allen, Henderson, Illinois; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy A. Nelson, Andover, Illinois and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sons, two brothers, and one sister.
