Albert Leslie Drew of Fitzroy, City of Yarra County, VIC Australia was born circa 1891 in Warrnambool to Daniel David Drew and Bridget Agnes Walsh. He had siblings Edward Patrick "Ned" Drew, Daniel David Drew, Violet May Drew, Gertrude Mary "Gertie" Drew, Mary Margaret "Beanie" Drew, Francis Joseph Drew, Basil Drew, Leonard Wilton Drew, and Vincent Thomas Drew. He married Mabel Victoria (Henry) Drew, and had children Albert Anthony "Bert" Drew, Jessie Veronica Bridget "Narra" Drew, Vincent Henry Drew, and Theo Leslie Drew. Albert Drew died at age 72 years old in 1963 in Fitzroy.

In 1891, in the year that Albert Leslie Drew was born, James Naismith, at the Springfield Massachusetts YMCA, invented the game of basketball. Originally using two peach baskets and a soccer ball, he created the game to keep his students active during the long, harsh New England winters.

In 1902, at the age of merely 11 years old, Albert was alive when the world famous Italian tenor, Enrico Caruso, made the first gramophone recording by a popular singer. Accompanied by only a piano, his voice recordings became a big seller and did much to popularize the new-fangled gramophone. He had to sing into a metal "horn" that relayed his voice to a metal disc. And the songs had to be under 4 and a half minutes!
