He had siblings Herbert Vivian Shugg, John Samuel Shugg, Myrtle Shugg, Louisa Jane Shugg, Minnie Eliza Shugg, Doris Rose Shugg, George Thomas Shugg, Walter Roberts Shugg, Bessie Gladys Shugg, Edna Jean Shugg, Olive May (Shugg) Belcher, Albert Roy James Shugg, and Barbara Ann Shugg. Alexander Shugg died at age 75 years old on February 18, 1968 in Chadstone, City of Monash County.

In 1892, in the year that Alexander Greer Shugg was born, on October 5th, the Dalton Gang was shot. The Gang was attempting to rob two banks - simultaneously - in Coffeyville Kansas but word spread of the robberies and townspeople with guns greeted them when they left the banks. Four members of the gang were killed - only Emmett Dalton survived his wounds and spent 14 years in prison.
