    The Border Watch Mt. Gambier Jan. 1893. DEATH OF MR. ALEX HUNTER. On the last voyage of the ship Tongarira from London there died on board, a fortnight after the vessel left port a passenger named Alexander McLean Hunter. The name will invoke many old colonists still living, recollections of stirring days in early Melbourne. In the early Forties the five Hunters were well known both in connection with pastoral pursuits and as daring and successsful gentlemen riders, for in steeplechasing they had no rivals in their day.
