  • Introduction

The Morning Bulletin. Rockhampton, Queensland. 22nd January 1927. GHASTLY TRAGEDY. A DESPERATE STRUGGLE. ALECK. VOLLING'S END. LONGREACH, January 21. A ghastly domestic tragedy was enacted in a house in Parrot-lane, at about 7:30 last night, which resulted in the death of Alexander Volling and the frightful wounding of his wife. The terrifying screams of the injured woman, as she rushed from her home aroused the whole neighbourhood.......... The tragedy is most poignant, more particularly so from the fact that it leaves a family of eight children fatherless and their minds will be indelibly impressed with the awful tragedy for many years. It is stated that Volling returned from a droving trip, three days ago. He was out all day yesterday mustering horses and returned about 7 o'clock. On entering his wife's bedroom he saw her getting ready to go out...... The Queensland Times, Ipswich Herald. Queensland. 29th October 1903 Longreach, October 26. Alexander Volling met with a very severe accident yesterday morning. He was trying to bail up a cow, when the cow made a rush, knocking Volling over. His head struck a rail, and the base of the skull was fractured.
